University auditorium AV — Arab Open University

A tired university auditorium rebuilt around a large direct-view LED wall and iPad control — modern, automated, and simple enough for staff to run themselves.

University auditorium AV — Arab Open University

Background

The Arab Open University set out to transform its Riyadh auditorium into a modern, innovative and automated space for every kind of event, and assigned Datacore to lead the technological transformation end to end.

The challenge

The outdated AV had to be stripped out and new cabling pulled through ceilings and concrete floors — quietly, while the university stayed open and classes continued, and all on a very tight timeline that meant procuring and delivering materials just in time.

The solution

Datacore installed a large 6 m × 3.375 m direct-view LED wall (AET, 1.2 mm pixel pitch, 4K), with a Crestron video matrix for switching and a Q-SYS DSP and control system tying every piece of equipment together, plus Shure microphones and a customised iPad interface.

BYOD USB connectivity lets presenters drive the large display, room camera, microphones and speakers from the stage or the control room, and works seamlessly with Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Control-room furniture and wooden cladding were added to match the existing interior.

The result

An adaptable, welcoming auditorium that non-technical users can run themselves — in daily use since 2023, backed by four quarterly Datacore maintenance visits and built to scale for future expansion.
